Getting the Colours Right
Inside the development of the Vannin Field Watch dials, from Pantone colour references to the physical samples we'll approve before production.
From the Journal
Today we've been working with our dial manufacturer to finalise the colour references for the four Vannin Field Watch dials before physical samples are produced.
Today has been about colour.
We've been working with our dial manufacturer to refine the colour references for each of the four Vannin Field Watch dials before we move to the next stage of development.
Western Sky Orange — Pantone 151 C
Western Sky takes its starting point from Pantone 151 C: a vivid orange intended to capture the intensity of the evening sky as the sun drops towards the Irish Sea.
The dial is not intended to be a flat block of orange. The centre carries the strongest colour before transitioning into a deeper orange and ultimately into Pantone Black 6 C around the perimeter.
That radial change is what gives the dial its depth.
Mountain Green — Pantone 349 C
Mountain Green is based around Pantone 349 C.
It's a rich, substantial green chosen to reflect the uplands, glens and landscape of the Isle of Man.
Again, the aim is not a completely flat dial. The green forms the heart of the colour before the ombré gradually darkens towards Pantone Black 6 C at the outer edge.
Irish Sea Blue — Pantone 286 C
Irish Sea Blue begins with Pantone 286 C at its brightest point.
Pantone 289 C provides the deeper transitional blue before the dial moves into Pantone Black 6 C around the outside.
The combination is intended to give the dial the depth and changing character we associate with the sea surrounding the Island — brighter in the centre, darker as the colour moves outwards.
